Message of ISESCO Director General
Dear visitor,
ISESCO Center for Promotion of Scientific Research (ICPSR) was established by the First Islamic Conference of Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research (October 2000) to promote, coordinate and guide advanced studies and scientific research in all fields of science and technology for sustainable economic development in the Islamic countries. The mandate has been expanded to include the promotion of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), through Transfer (Transfer of Technology, Transfer of Knowledge and Transfer of Skills).
This vision advocated by ICPSR stems from the pivotal role that Research in Science and Technology can play as a key component of progress towards a knowledge-based society and innovative-driven economy, especially that most OIC Member States are lagging behind the world average in terms of researchers and R&D activities and lack strong institutional frameworks for STI and adequate long-term national strategies for science and technology.
The availability of abundant and highly qualified researchers is essential to foster innovation and promote the scientific and technological development of a country. In this regards, ICPSR is capitalizing on its status as specialized organ of ISESCO to develop networking among the research institutions, universities and centers of excellence, both at international level as well as national level, in order to enhance cooperation and coordination among the Islamic countries in the area of Science and Technology. ICPSR, also aims to raise awareness in OIC Member States on scientific issues through its publications, and promote academic research through its mobility programs, grants and awards.
The ICPSR website provides a wide spectrum of information on its programs, activities, achievements, strategies, publications and news, and I hope that the website will be useful for all those who are interested, as well as for researchers and specialists.
Welcoming you once again and wishing you a useful tour of our website.
Dr. Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri
Director General, ISESCO
